How do I restore a custom toolbar I made after having to reinstall Office after a system reinstallation?

The question is for both Word and Excel.

There is no way to restore customizations unless the need to do so is
anticipated. Word's custom toolbars are stored in the Normal.dotm template
so if there's no backup of it they're gone. Likewise the files that store
customizations in Excel need to be backed up in order to recover from them.

Thanks for the info on the Word custom toolbars. Re the Excel toolbars, I DO have complete backups of my hard disk so I just need to know the normal location of the Excel toolbars so that I can look for them in my backup.

You should find a file by the name of Excel Toolbars (12) at:

HD/Users/username/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Office 2008/

Copy it from your backup to the corresponding location on your newly
installed HD to replace the default file.

But.....
You indicated that you had to do a reinstall of Office. If you did this
because of file corruption, or other "funny business" that made Office
unusable, the corruption usually occurs in a preference or toolbar file.
Restoring an old one may just bring the problem back.

Valid point, but the op was that reinstalling Office was done due to
reinstalling the OS, not because of problems with Office. I'm hoping that
the backup stuff is clean :)
