Restore Entourage Mail, notes and contacts

After installing the latest Microsoft updates, I started getting the "microsoft Sync services has encountered a problem" message.

After searching the forum I found a post that mentioned that it might be a frame problem. I moved the contents of Microsoft User data folder to my desktop and let entourage rebuild it. Which it did and that has solved that problem.

However, after putting the contents of the Microsoft user data directory back, Entourage does not show my mail, account settings or notes. How do I get it to show the info that is back in its place.

Did you add your account info and use this Identity? If yes, then it's not
your update but your database that has the problem.
However, after putting the contents of the Microsoft user data directory back,
Entourage does not show my mail, account settings or notes. How do I get it to
show the info that is back in its place.

When you move the Microsoft User Data folder out of the Documents folder,
Entourage does not rebuild it, it replaces it with a blank Identity. You
will need to drag your Main Identity back to the correct location. Quit
Entourage, then drag your old Identity back. When you launch Entourage it
will launch in the old Identity.

How to rebuild:

Make a duplicate in the Finder first as additional backup. A rebuild does
make a duplicate, but sometimes in the process the original and backup get
merged resulting in total disaster. It's rare but it happens.

I'm not sure what that means.

Actually you did nothing, because what Entourage rebuilds *is* the data
in the Microsoft User Data folder. By moving it out, there was nothing
for Entourage to rebuild (except an empty identity).
However, after putting the contents of the Microsoft user data directory
back, Entourage does not show my mail, account settings or notes. How do I

Choosing Switch Identity from the Entourage menu should show you your
old data. This time don't move it before rebuilding.

I can totally sympathize with his frustration. Entourage keeps quitting. I have followed all of the on-line tips for rebuilding my database and when I do it is three times the original size and it has nothing in it at all. No email, no folders, no contacts but it takes up 9GB of space.
I feel the problem is that Microsoft has put all of the eggs into one basket which becomes huge and then the basket breaks and when you fix it you lose everything.
I am tempted to move all of my email back to Outlook on my VMWare instance of Windows on the Mac because I could have a separate PST file for each major instance of security information. Can someone please help us?

This tells me the rebuild was corrupted. When the database utility does a
rebuild, it makes a copy. Sometimes when the copy and new is being made they
are merged making a pile of corruption.

Unless you have a copy of your database before you tried to rebuild or an
Identity that will open, there is no way to salvage your data.

It does not sound like your problem is exactly like the original poster. You
also did not give any info about the version of Entourage you are using,
your account type etc. If you are serious about getting help, start your own
thread and give some details.
