Could you tell us a little more about what "styles" have changed and in
what way?
Do you mean templates? If so which templates? If it is normal.dot
you can delete it and Word will replace it with the original default
version. I would recommend making a copy by saving it with a new name
before deleting the original.
I've just realised that the styles are linked to the document that is
loaded, rather than being global. What is causing Word to change a style
when I change the format of one line in the document? I may want to change
the format of a single line, but I never want that action to update a style.
It could add a new custom style when you do that, but not change the
original style. Is this behaviour possible in Word?
I have realised what is happening to change my styles. I am highlighting an
area and then clicking the desired style on the ribbon. However, rather
than changing the highlighted area to the style I want, it is changing the
style to format of my selected text. This seems totally bizarre behaviour
to me, but it may go someway to explain why I find Word so un-intuitive if
it's not doing what I expect it to.
Something is "funny" with your system and mouse configuration. If you
Right-click the Style, you will see the first entry is to change the
Style to match your selection. Left clicking the Style should apply the
Style to the selection.
If you select Modify from the right click menu, there is a check box
"Automatically Update". This appears to determine what happens when you
left click. Half of my styles had this box checked, the other half did not,
hence the incionsistent behaviour.
