restore word 2007 back to original default

Well, everyone here at the college is baffled...I am trying to figure out how
to restore Word 2007 back to the default program settings. I have been all
over the place trying to figure out what I "clicked" (by accident) to make
working with grapics and pictures in Word 07 so difficult. I cannot move or
edit images as I have often been doing very easily and very recently. I've
tried everything I can think of on the program menu settings to get things
back to normal and cannot. So I thought resetting to the default would be the
best way. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!! TH

Unfortunately, there is no "master switch" method for resetting the defaults
in Word. One surefire method is to create a new Windows logon/user profile.
This method is also filled with surefire headaches, since any
customization/setup you've done would need to be redone, including having to
set Outlook up to use the correct .pst file, fixing OE or WM to reclaim its
data store, and so on. So... this is a last resort, IMO.

A less drastic method is to rename/delete normal.dotm and to rename one or
more registry keys. However....

For the current problem... when working with pictures in Word 2007 becomes
problematic (e.g., dragging a picture in one direction actually results in
the picture ending up in the opposite direction), renaming the Data key in
the registry seems to clear the problem up.

This restores the ability to drag properly (until the glitch happens again,
that is).

I would try renaming or deleting the Data key in the registry:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Data

*Standard disclaimer: editing the registry can cause problems if you mess
up, and can destabilize the rotation of the planet. Proceed at your own
risk.*

Thank you Mr. Tyson, I will give this a try and let you know. Do you think
this problem is something that will be fixed via patch or a later version of
Office?
