restoring e-mails

I had to re-format my hard disc recently, but.... I
wasn't aware that I should have exported my e-mail
messages and address book from Outlook Express rather
than just save them to a disc as with other files. I
should then have been able to import them back to my
saved e-mail files.
I can see all the files (.dbx) on my D:/ drive, and can
see them in the file directory on the C:/ drive, but I am
unable to read them. (I think they are in the correct
place)
Can anybody make a suggestion as to how I can retrieve
these files?

You were correct in saving the files to a CD. What you now need to do is to
copy them to a NEW folder on your C drive, and then in Outlook Express, go
to File-Import and navigate o the new folder you have created.

Thanks for your help. I created a new folder in My
Documents and dragged the files from my cd to this
folder. However, the import did not work.

Did you also drag the file called Folders.dbx?
You also need to remove the Read-Only attribute on each file. (Right-click,
Properties)

BINGO!!!

Thank you so much for your help - I have all my precious
notes back.

This is the first time I have used this (or any) form of
newsgroup, and I am thrilled that I had a response at
all, and of course even more delighted to be able to
receive such knowledgable help.

Best wishes
