Restoring Outlook Backup

J

John Cronin

I recently needed to format my hard drive and re-install
Windows XP. Before I peformed the format I backup my
messages and addresses from Outlook to another hard drive
on my computer.

I have re-installed Windows XP and Office XP and would
like to restore my messages and addresses to Outlook.
What is the proper procedure to perform this restore?

I performed the backup by using the Export function in
Outlook. I have tried to import the data but have not
been able to recover the data.

Any Suggestions

Importing and exporting is decidedly not the correct way to do this.
You really didn't provide any information.
To what format did you export? Why can't you import and what happens when
you try?

Search for a file with a .PST extension and then point Outlook to that file
using File | Open. In the future, it's best just to back up your .PST file
and then use the procedure above to get the data back...exporting is
unnecessary and may cause loss of data and/or settings. (Exporting and
importing should only be used when transferring data to or from another
program or file format.)

Look here for all the information you need on backup and restoration of
Outlook data:
