Restrict access to certain projects on the server

Hi, I have a question regarding access to projects on the server. My group
has always had one administrator for the server and only our group used this
server, so this issue never came up before. Now someone within our company,
but not in our group asked to post his project on our server. I would be
willing to initially post his project out on our server and then "change the
manager" to him so that after that I would not be involved. But, I would
only consider doing this if I knew for sure that there is no way that he
could view or access any of our projects on that same server. What can I do
to achieve this?

1) What is the highest level I can assign this person to so that he can
maintain his project(as the highest level in his group), but without giving
him access to other projects on the server?

2) Are there any issues I should be aware of before following through with
this, will I need to create special groups, categories for this person and
his team for their project, if so, can you elaborate on these?

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

So much depends on your current use and modification of the RBS and inbuilt
categories and groups. If you pretty much have the default set up, and place
this user in a separate portion of the RBS, and just make him a PM and TM,
then by default they won't be able to see anyone elses projects, just their
own. You will need to work out your own solution and then test it using a
project server account.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I have been testing it out with assigning them as
a project manager, but they can still view all projects, not just the one
they manage. So, I then changed them back to a team member status and tried
creating a custom view that I assigned them to and checked off the option
that the people belonging to that category would only be able view those
projects in which they manage, which should have worked because I only
assigned this person as the manager to one of the projects. But they are
still able to view all projects on the server when they look at their custom
view or their regular project summary view. Please help, I don't have a lot
of experience with views, but I don't understand why this wouldn't work if I
specified they can only view those projects which they manage? Thanks.

Hi, well, in which case your system has been opened out. In this case, I
would create an additional PM group and category, and assign this user to
that new PM group only, and associate that category with that group only.
Hopefully you haven't got permissions or categories associated with the user,
if so, remove them. Make sure the permissions are as per the default
permissions for the PM category and the PM group.
