restricted types

am sharing folders (not workspaces) amongst my computers and some colleagues'
computers (we don't have any administrator of IT...just us, all with manager
privileges). Groove '07. Need to get an mdb file across, but it's blocked.
I cannot get to anything that shows me where I can unblock it. Can someone
give me the few steps this might take, since this seems like it must just be
rookie error.

thanks.

Hi Boris -

File | Options from the main menu. Select the Security tab and uncheck the
"File Restrictions" tab.

It will cause you problems if two people try to edit the same ,mdb file in
Access,

but I don't want to share all the other files. I just want to share mdb
ones. I want the others which are considered restricted to stay restricted.
Please don't tell me that in all MS's brilliance, they figured out a way to
take another (otherwise perfectly good and useful) product and enforce their
opinion of what is and isn't important, without giving slightly more advanced
users the option to customize as we might see fit.

There are a few ways to accomplish what you want.

1. You can do as Mark had suggested in opening up all the file restrictions.
2. You could upgrade to hosted services where you can specify which files
you want to allow.
3. You could simply zip the file and put it in the file share.
4. You could rename the file extension to something like .txt and let the
other users know who need to access it.

My question to you is are you attempting to share out this mdb file while it
is attached to Access? If you are I would suggest you that you do not share
it out while it's in use as it can cause problems with Groove. Groove sends
out file changes to the other members of the file sharing space and by their
very nature db files, if attached to the database program, are constantly
changing thus Groove would be constantly sending out updates which could
cause performance issues.
