Restricting access to online resources

My apologies upfront if this is the wrong newsgroup to be
posting this to...

A small company has a Web site created in FrontPage 2003
and hosted by a service that supports FP server
extentions. At the current time this site is strictly
informational, advertising our products.

Our company's customers currently order documentation for
products via e-mail. As these documents are already
in .pdf format, we would like to be able to post them on
our web site, but allow access to their download only to
visitors who are registered customers.

Could anyone suggest a solution a relative novice could
implement?

Thank you,
BJM

Create a database of your customers and create a page for
them. Use asp to check their credentials against the
database and on their page put the links to the documents.

For setting it up w/ a single password see http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=301554
Your host will have to support subwebs and unique permissions under the FP Server Extensions

If you want unique passwords for each user from a database see
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=321439
