Restricting the old company from accessing my computer

michelle

I used to have office pro, linked to my old company. Found out the were
remotely accessing my personal documents, files, pictures for amusement.
Since quit. I restored my computer and just recently downloaded office
standard home edition 2003, anything else I can do to assure they can't
remotely access my computer?

(Minor point, there is no such thing as Office Home Edition. Perhaps you
mean Windows XP Home?)

This is not an Office issue but a Windows issue. That and a sign of a badly
operated business. I'd say worse but I'm trying not to be nasty on Mondays.
(Please realize I'm thinking worse things than "poor business practices".)
You need to make sure you're running a firewall plus you need to check your
remote access settings. Search Google or microsoft.com for how to do this. I
can't help you with the specifics because I've only ever allowed access
once - and then my firewall prevented it anyway.

Thanks Joann,

yes I meant XP home. I got into system settings and disabled netmeeting
through admin tools, I then went into registry and added a value to
control/LSA/winreg setting it to one on anonymous logon use, and also into
secure pipe servers adding the restrict anonymous logon, but I don't know
that it is enough, it seems there is always a back door.... I wish I never
met that company!

Have you changed your log-in password to a secure password? Use caps, use
numbers, use symbols if you can. Make it tough on them.

Do you let your computer on all day? Is your connection live all day? If so,
time to shut it down while you aren't sitting in front of the keyboard.

(I'm almost tempted to tell you to make friends with a hacker and sabotage
that company but that wouldn't be in keeping with my Mellow Monday mode.)
