Retain conditional formatting when exporting to Excel

I've created a report with conditional formatting. That report needs to be
emailed in Excel 2003 format. Unfortunately the conditional formatting
configured in Access is not retained. The field(s) do retain part and that is
the 'default conditional format' setting. It doesn't suit our needs to send
in (Snap)SNP format. What am I missing or not doing?

Instead of using Excel 2003,
Publish your report with word, it would keep your formatting intact.
but it won't show any image or lines that you have added in your report.

Best choice would be to create a PDF file from your report.
