Retrieval of deleted excel files

I inadvertently deleted an excel file and want to retrieve it. Is it possible
and how is it done?

Not possible but a couple of things that sometimes can be helpful.

Is it in the re-cycle bin
have you got a backup.
Is it saved on a network drive that's backed up by someone else.
Did you mail it to someone leaving a copy in your sent items.
