Retrieving documents

My mom was using Microsoft Office 2003 while typing up a report, and said
that she saved it when she was done. I wasn't there to see what went wrong,
but now when she tries to open it, the document is blank. Is there any way to
retrieve the document from her last save, or is it lost? It might be gone,
because I am not sure if she saved it more than once, but I was wondering if
anything could be done. Thank you.
