Retrieving Lost Data - HELP!!!

Liam Greene

Excel 2000 WinXP Pro

I am currently working on a spreadsheet with different worksheet
within it.
Today I entered information into one of the worksheets and did no
notice that they were all selected - hence it has typed over all m
previous worksheets. Unfortunately most of the work was done in th
last 2 days and typically, the last system restore date is 3 days ago
just my luck!!!

Does excel make any automated backups and if so how can I access them
or is there any other way to undo the damage done???

Suggestions appreciated - gonna take me ages to redo the work!!!

Thanks

As far as I know there are no automatic local backups. I think you will need to retype the information if you can't access a restore.

If you had File>Save As>Tools>General Options "always create a backup"
checked, you would have a backup of the file from the previous save.

Otherwise, probably out of luck.

BTW.........System Restore does not restore data files.

Thanks for the suggestions - looks like i'm going to have to retype th
info but it could be worse - 56 worksheets to do and only lost 4 o
them so glad it didnt happen later!!!

Frank - thanks for the util - should ensure this never happens again!
Thanks

Gord - Thanks too, just assumed it would make backups itself but hav
selected it now so with Franks util I should be safe - if youre readin
this does it always keep the backups for every save or is it limited t
just the previous and autodeletes the rest? Ask this because I sav
probably 4 times a day. And what folder does it put it in? the same a
you save in?

Scottmk - Was working till 1AM, saved prob 4 or 5 times that day an
did not notice until the next day!!!!! Undo!!!! (you made me laugh a
least!!) - the spreadsheets got 32 columns and 96 rows so I have t
save kinda regular. Muppet!!! (laughing) - not everyone uses excel t
plan how they spend their allowance!!!!

"Always create a backup" saves a backup in the default file folder as
yourfile.XLK

Note the file extension of .XLK

You can do a File Find on that extension if need be.

The backup is one save behind the current save.

Previous backups are deleted so's you only have the one.
