returned email

is there a new virus or something that keeps sending out a ridiculous amount
of spam emails out to addresses that don't really exist from my machine
which results in a ton of returned email or am I just being voraciously
attacked by spammers. Anyone know if there is a dos command that can check
if my box has been sending emails without me knowing it.
