Reverse Publishing with Frontpage2000 in Windows XP Pro

R

Ronnie K

I have been unable to successfully reverse publish to my
own computer from my online website. I am told that
updates made to windows xp pro (or updates made to Office
2000) have created a restriction to files below 1 meg. I
have gone through all of the folders and set any file
over that size to not publish (where I would later try to
FTP those files. However, it is stil giving me the error
message "The server sent a response which frontpage could
not parse. If you are trying to connect to a frontpage
server make sure the frontpage server extension are
installed." Sometimes I alternatively get the error
message "the servfer timed out." The IIS is running
properly on my machine (I have also installed the front
page extentsions, although I do not think it necessary,
as I am not using my machine as a server)

Any ideas?

I have already seen this article. Please note that this
refers to publishing to an internet-based computer. I am
trying to reverse publish (from the online server to my
computer, which should only require that IIS be running
in order for the site to be published to an "http"
address on my local computer)

Tom:

re:264777. This only shows you how to do it, which is not
working (which is the reason for my posting)

I had spkone to a micosoft support rep regarding
installing office. He said that there is now an issue
caused from updates that disallow any files larger than 1
meg to be published back to a local computer (reverse
published)

I have isolate these files and fixed them so as to not
publish, but I am still having difficulties. I am now
tryingn to one-by-one copy and paste each file. The
folders are created okay when I publish, and I have
checked the online website to verify that all larger
files are taken out of the publishing, but I still get
the error message. Any further ideas?

Open your online site in FP
Try moving your files over 1 MB to 1 folder (say media) and, if your host supports subwebs, right click that folder to convert to
web
Open your local web in FP and do the same
Then try publishing your online root web (w/o subwebs) to your local

(if you need to update the large files use a 3rd party FTP for just the content of the media subweb folder)
