Revert to document x

When I try to open a document that exists, I keep getting
the dialogue box which says "revert to document x?".
When I close the box, my document comes up. Does anyone
know how to get rid of the dialogue box once and for all?

I suspect you are using Word 97 and that the document you are trying to open
is already open. Look under the Windows menu. If that is the case, this
message is asking you if you want to throw away changes in the document that
you made since opening it the first time (which haven't been saved) and
reopen the last saved version.
