Revert to Office 2003 Professional

Dennis

I Give Up! Last weekend I upgraded from Office 2003 Pro to Office 2007
Enterprise which I got under a Home Use Policy. Ever since installing Office
2007 each application installs and configures itself when the application is
launched. Outlook also goes through the routine frequently when it checks for
new mail or sends mail. I have accepted the fact that MS has no fix for this
and want to revert to Office 2003 Pro.

- What do I need to do so that my Outlook files and accounts remain intact
and useable?
- What do I need to do so I don't get some error message should I try to
re-install Office 2007 at a later date? I'm thinking something like 'Office
2007 is already installed on this computer' type error.
- Should I delete Office 2007 before instally Office 2003?
- Any other helpful information I may not have considered.

Thank You in advance.

If you are finding that Office 2007 is acting up, then there is obviously a
problem with the install.

You wrote "I have accepted the fact that MS has no fix for this
and want to revert to Office 2003 Pro." This of course is not true. If
Office 2007 behaved like this normally for everyone then there would be many
more posts repeating your statement.

Let me first tell you how to fix your problem, then I will answer your
questions..

Here is how to fix your problem and get office 2007 working correctly. This
will remove ALL office products on your box. Be prepared to reinstall.

First uninstall any office products through add/remove programs..

Delete the following registry keys if they exist

• HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office
• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office
•
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\*0FF1CE*
•
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UpgradeCodes\*F01FEC
•
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Products\*F01FEC
• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ose
• HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Features\*F01FEC
• HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\*F01FEC
• HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\UpgradeCodes\*F01FEC
• HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Win32Assemblies\*Office12*
HK_User\.Default\Software\Microsoft\Office
HK_User\.Default\Software\Microsoft\OfficeCustomizeWizard

and delete the following files.
%AllUsersprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Data
c:\msocache
%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Office
%CommonProgramFiles%\Microsoft Shared

Reboot.
reinstall Office

Now to your questions..

- What do I need to do so that my Outlook files and accounts remain intact
and useable?
A- Nothing. Uninstalling office does not effect Outlook profiles or files.

- What do I need to do so I don't get some error message should I try to
re-install Office 2007 at a later date? I'm thinking something like 'Office
2007 is already installed on this computer' type error.
A- Follow the instructions listed above to manually remove office and
reinstall

- Should I delete Office 2007 before instally Office 2003?
A- yes.. in fact you should follow my instructions above if you choose to
install 2003 or 2007. You have some office registry corruption that needs to
be fixed regardless of what version you decide to use.

Eric A.,
I ran into some differences and problems.

I was unable to locate the following in the registry and assume they were
deleted when I did the uninstall.

•
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\*0FF1CE*
•
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UpgradeCodes\*F01FEC
•
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Products\*F01FEC
• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ose
• HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Features\*F01FEC
• HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\*F01FEC
• HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\UpgradeCodes\*F01FEC
• HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Win32Assemblies\*Office12*
• HK_User\.Default\Software\Microsoft\OfficeCustomizeWizard

Additionally, I could not locate the following files/folders:

%AllUsersprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Data
c:\msocache
%CommonProgramFiles%\Microsoft Shared

You should know that I have Vista Home Premium if that makes a difference.

I acted under the assumption that the uninstall deleted the registry entires
and files I couldn't locate and tried to reiinstall Office 2007. The
installation gets about 33% across the status bar when I get the following
error message: "Setup cannot find Publisher.en-us\PubLR.cab. Browse to a
valid installation source, and then click ok." Below that is a directory tree.

I greatly appreciate your help.

Your assumptions were correct. Many of those keys should not have been there,
but I like to give them all in case there is a problem with the uninstall.

The problem you are seeing now is definitely a problem reading from source.
Did you download an Office 2007 ISO from somewhere and then burn to dvd?
Is it retail media?

If you downloaded the Office 2007 .ISO and then burned it to DVD please try
this..
Download isobuster. (www.isobuster.com)
install isobuster
run isobuster and use isobuster to browse to and then open the ISO file you
had downloaded.
extract the contents of the ISO file into a folder named “office2007â€
after all the files are there run setup.

If you have retail media please try this..
Put the disc in the drive
make a new folder on the desktop named “office 2007â€
copy the contents of the disc into this new folder.
if it copies the entire disc successfully run setup in the new folder.

Please let me know what happens.

Additional suggeston to the OP, if you have two CD/DVD drives, a burner
and a ROM try installing with the Office DVD in the burner. I've found
that I've had success reading CD/DVDs with the burner that the reader
cannot read.

Thank You. I'm beginning to think this is a lost cause.

I tried what you suggested, and what XS11E suggested, to no avail. I ended
up using the Windows restore function to restore to a point before I
installed Office 2007. Then I followed your registry/file clean-up procedure.
After that I was able to install Office 2007 from the CD but the
install/configure problem still exists.

I do appreciate all your help.

Thank you for the suggestion. I tried using both drives with no luck. Used
"System Restore" and then was able to install the application from the media.

Great, and thanks for letting us know what worked.

This is resolved.

I reformatted the hard drive and restored it to the configuration that was
in place when I purchased the computer. When it was time I installed Office
2003 to avoid additional frustration.

I appreciate the time and efforts of all who tried to help.

Best Regards
Dennis
