Ribbon questions

Hi;

Two questions about the ribbon. And if the answer is different for
Office 2007 vs 2010 - please let me know for each.

1) Can we put up a second section above the ribbon like Word does when
you are in a table and you have "Table Tools?" If so, how?

2) Can we put things in the ribbon other than buttons? Like drop down
combo-boxes, font picker, color picker, etc? If so, how?

thanks - dave

Hello Dave,

I believe the answers to these two questions should be same for Office 2007
and Office 2010.

1.We call these kinds of tabs as contextual tabs. They are mentioned in
many documents, but no real samples for them currently. And based on my
test, at this time, contextual tabs are still not supported in most of
Office application's Ribbon Customization(except Access). I will do a
little more research to confirm this.

2. Yes, we have other controls that can be used in the Ribbon
customization. They are checkbox, combobox, dropdown, gallery, splitbutton,
dialogBoxLauncher, toggleButton. No existed implemented font picker, color
picker. I think we can implement a very simple font or color picker using
combobox.

re 2) Yes numerous controls are supported for addins. They are listed in
this 3-part MSDN article:
"Customizing the 2007 Office Fluent Ribbon for Developers"

Also there are two books at Amazon.com with 'RibbonX' in their titles. I
bought both and both were quite helpful.
