Rotate mailmerge fields or just body text

I have a client that has a self_mailer an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper tri-folded and tabbed... on the outside I print the mailmerged address and postmark. On the inside is a letter that has a Salutaion and first name... The shells, or paper, are pre-printed. So I want to print this file duplex, one side the address, the other the letter..... This would not have a problem, but one of the sides need to b rotated 180 degrees to match up.... So I need to rotate the address block 180 dgrees, or the letter text and the first name merge field...

Ideas?

You could try putting the fields that need to be rotated
into text boxes - either directly or via bookmarks - since
you can rotate the text in text boxes in 90 degree
increments, using Format|Text direction.

If you put the whole of the 'front' page into a text box
facing one way (90 degrees to the page layout) and the
whole of the 'back' page into a text box facing the other
way you can get the required effect, though you might also
need to change the page layout from portrait to landscape,
or vice versa, to compensate.

Cheers

I have tried the text box idea to put information on both sides of a place card (the back rotated 180 degrees). Unfortunately the merge fields do not work properly in a text box. Apparently they do not identify themselves with a particular record.

Did you figure it out?

I have the same requirement: to rotate a mailmerge field. I have found that the value is only generated once per page, meaning that the most of the fields are wrong when they are rendered. Does Microsoft know about this issue? Is there a workaround?

Workaround

I found that if you use <<Next Record>> field in your template, bad things happen to your rotated text. I was able to remedy this by:

  1. Remove all but one record per page
  2. Place your fields inside text boxes, then rotate and style the text boxes
  3. Click Finish and Merge, and open in new document
  4. Manually remove all the section breaks between records (PAINFUL!!)
  5. Print labels

It would have been so much easier if Search and Replace worked with section breaks, but it DOES NOT. Just try replacing all "^b" (section breaks) in your document, and you'll find that WORD CANNOT FIND ANY.
