Bob,
I've been using RSS technology via Newsgator (
www.newsgator.com) add-in
to Outlook for a few years now. Terrific for reading the multitude of
blogs and other RSS feeds. Has stood test of time for me. It has
ability to pull in newsgroup feeds, and I do so for this newsgroup.
However, it doesn't have a way (that I can see) to view the messages by
thread. So, while I can get the feeds into my RSS tool, I still rely on
a newsreader to read newsgroups. Favourite is Mozilla's Thunderbird.
By your comment "I don't see the little red RSS button" tells me you are
using a web site some where which aggregates the news server feeds into
a web page. This means that the functionality available for reading the
newsgroup is limited to that tool. RSS is just a protocol (a useful one
at that) just like NTTP is the protocol for news servers (invented in
the 1970's or thereabouts). Tools are developed to work with these
protocols, e.g. Newsgator, Thunderbird, web pages, etc.
There are lots of RSS "aggregators" (things which specialise in
capturing and displaying RSS feeds. Look again at the one you are using
(I assume it's not the one you use for reading this newsgroup) and see
if it can pull in NTTP newsgroup feeds. If it has capability to do both
RSS and NTTP and retain NTTP threads, I want to know!
FYI, some of the folks who appear here also have their own blogs and
some have made RSS available. See

a lits.
