Can anyone explain why the rules menu command appears and functions
differently when a custom mail view window is in front (as opposed to the
main window)? For example, with a custom view in front, I right-click on an
IMAP mail message, and all of my IMAP rule are unavailable in the rule menu.
If I run "all rules," my IMAP rules don't even run. Why would it make any
difference to Entourage which window is in front when it comes to displaying
and applying rules?

Wow! Good catch! Looks like a bug to me. I'll report it, and I recommend
you do the same, using the Feedback function. In Entourage X, go to Help ->
