Rules in Outlook 2003 for MSN/Hotmail

Misha

Is there a way to configure Rules to work with Outlook 2003 MSN/Hotmail?
Getting message that rules cannot be used with HTTP mail folders.

Roady [MVP]

No, you can configure rules by logging into Hotmail. This is actually better
as you'll will have serverside rules which will always work even when you
close Outlook.

While it may be better to have server side rules, it does make more work for
the user. There are other email clients that offer the filtering from the
client side. Seems a pity with all the bells and whistles in Outlook that
this option is not available.

It's not an Outlook limitation but from the account type. Just like it isn't
an Outlook limitation to upload/modify messages on a POP3 account. There are
several add-in available which allow you to access HTTP accounts like a POP3
account.

I have to disagree somewhat with that, my previous email client, allowed me
to create folders and rules within the program for this very same account
that I now have in Outlook. The client in question was Incredimail. Using the
same http account I was able to create folders, message rules and use them
for this http account.

You are so very wrong. The things you mention are indeed Outlook limitations.
I was quite able to do those things in kmail on linux as well as access
hotmail accounts without a subscription (with a little perl script)

Roady-
I'm searching for the solution to filter Hotmail email and forward certain
messages to another email account. Research turned up your recommendation
below. Will you help me with how to accomplish this on the 'serverside' in
Hotmail? I went to Hotmail and the only filtering I saw was for Junk mail.
I'm obviously not looking in the correct location. All help apprecited.

Use the option to automatically sort mail into folders in the Customize your
mail section.

Diane-
Not the solution to my issue: The issue is not sorting mail into folders but
forwarding selected emails to another email account/address. Outlook won't
do it as a Rule. Roady's suggestion was using Hotmail, but I cannot find
that as an option. Again, Hotmail 'Rule' to forward certain selected emails
from the Hotmail account to another POP3 email account-address. Thanks
