run time error 6 I/O

I have uninstalled & reinstalled ppt 2000, Still no luck .
Every time I try to open any .ppt file.. I recieve this
message from the office assistant...TY

"An unexpected error occurred - I/O Error 0" or "An unexpected error
occurred - I/O Error 6"
