Run Word 07 and Word 03 Simultaneously

Hello

I am hoping someone can give me a good explanation for the following questions

1. Why can't I run Word 07 and Word 03 simultaneously when I have no problem
running Excel 07 and Excel 03 simultaneously?

2. Why does Word 07 and Word 03 have to go through a configuration routine
whenever I open one or the other?

I have no explanation really, but this is simply how it is. Keep in mind
that the programs might belong to the same Office suite, but that
code-wise, these are very different programs: Some members of the Office
family were bought from other companies by Microsoft, others have been
around longer, etc.
