You can run them both if you do a custom install of Office 2003 so it does
not remove previous versions.
In general it works fine, though there can be problems with broken
References, e.g. if you use MS Graph, the Calendar control, ActiveX
controls, or references to an Office library. More information about

Without any problems, no, without any insurmountable problems, certainly.

97 and Access 2000, many of the issues discussed are still relevant.

I prefer to use Virtual PC to keep my Access versions separated, and can
heartily recommend it.

Another question would I need to buy the full version of 2003 or can I buy

My understanding is that installing the upgrade without uninstalling the
previous version would be a breach of the licencing agreement.
