Running Outlook on Startup, and having it minimized

James

Is there a way to run Outlook (or any program for that matter)
automatically on start-up and have it minimized immediatey? I used
regedit to have Outlook minimze to the system try, and I want to have
it running, sitting there in the system tray whenever I start up my
computer. Is this possible?

Thanks a lot,
James

Hi James,

Create a shortcut to Outlook. Right click on the shortcut
and select Properties. On the Shortcut tab go to the Run
dropdown box and select Minimized and click OK. Now
drag the Shortcut to Start - All Programs - Startup. The
next time the system is restarted it will startup minimized.

You can have any application run at startup by simply copying its shortcut into the Startup folder. Change the Properties of the shortcut to start Minimized.

The above procedure will not place an icon in the Systray, but there are 3rd party utilities available that will do this for you.

The first release of Outlook, (O97), was very slow in starting. Because of this behavior there was a popular 3rd party utility called Outlock that would configure its startup exactly as you have requested. This utility is still available, but it's no longer supported. See this link for more info:

Hi Bert,

Selecting the minimize tab doesn't seem to be working. To be sure, I
tried selecting the minimize tab on a few other shortcuts, and nothing
seems to open minimize, but still in their normal windows.

Is there something else I need to do to get the minimize feature to
work?

Thanks,
James

I tried it here last night and it work as described. The only
difference might be is I used OL03.

I tried the instructions that Sparker posted, and it worked. The
problem was that Outlook was maximized after it was last closed, which
I guess messes with the Start Minimized function.

Thanks for your help!

Glad to help...and thanks for the feedback!

If you have any future issues with Outlook, you would be better served by posting your question to a more relevant newsgroup, such as microsoft.public.outlook.general.

In your initial query, include the version of Outlook you are using. The above newsgroup covers Outlook 97, 98, 2000, 2002, and 2003. Solutions can vary for each version.
