Devin,
You don't. VBA stands for Visual Basic for Applications and it requires
one of the core applications (e.g. Project, Excel, etc.) to make it run.
You can however run "straight" VB without office applications but you do
of course need either VB6 or VB.net to create and run VB code.

Devin,
I forgot to mention that you can control one core application from VBA
code running in another core application. For example, a VBA macro
running in Excel can open and control a Project file or VBA running in
PowerPoint can integrate with a Word document.
