Runtime error" in Outlook.

When I first open up Outlook, it gives me a "runtime error", Outlook is being
terminated in an unusual way, contact Outlook for info. And then of course
the program closes. Then I can open it up again and it will work, Anyone
gotten this message and figured out how to solve it?
Thanks

I have the same problem, since I installed SP2, and updated to Norton
Internet Security 2004. The articles you and Brian Tilman cite do not help
(Norton anti-spam cannot be dissabled, as it loads automatically when Outlook
is opened. I
checked with Symantec). Nor does Detect and Repair.

When I spoke to someone at Microsoft, their soloution was to completely
remove Norton Internet Security. that fixed the runtime error, but I liked
the Personal Firewall.

What else could stop this giant inconvenience? Also, does the Windows
Firewalls protect as well as the Norton one?

Thank you,

Perry

Tips of the month:
-What do the Outlook Icons Mean?
-Create an Office 2003 CD slipstreamed with Service Pack 1

Then reinstall the package, but install only the firewall portion. I
believe you can do that.

Depends. The Windows firewall won't tell you when an application on your PC
is trying to make an outbound connection, so if you have spyware that phones
home, you won't be notified. I find Sygate, Kerio, and Zone Alarm (all with
free-for-home-use versions) to be better than the Windows firewall. If you
can install only the Norton firewall, do that.

The problem is related to the outlook plugin for the antispam component to
Norton Internet Security. You can disable Antispam by renaming the
""MSOUPLUG" file (I just changed the file extension to .old) This will
unfortunately disable Antispam, but will leave the rest of NIS intact. I
emailed norton about this, they told me they didn't have a fix but were
working on one (That was 3 months ago). The problem only seems to happen on
multiple user systems on the first instance of openning outlook after
switching users. That file is in "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec
Shared\Antispam" on my computer. Hope this is of help to you

I had same problem. Norton is aware of it but doesn't have a fix. You can
stop Outlook from crashing by renaming the file named "MSOUPLUG" (I just
changed the file extension to .old) It was located in "C:\Program
Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Antispam" on my computer. This disables
antispam but leaves the rest of NIS intact. Hope this is of help.
