Russian Language Pack does not install properly with Vista

Hi Alex,

You say the Digital River secuROM page is filled with garbage symbols when
you try to install the Russian Language Pack under Vista. This may be related
to the default code page used by your operating system. The installation page
in the Digital River package requires code page 1251
((http://www.science.co.il/Language/Character-Code.asp?s=1251), while your
default code page might be 1252
((http://www.science.co.il/Language/Character-Code.asp?s=1252 ). This could
explain why the Cyrillic characters you should normally see during the
installation may appear as “garbage symbolsâ€.

For the installation messages to be displayed correctly with Cyrillic
characters, try changing the “Language for non-Unicode programs†and select
“Russianâ€, instead of English (in Vista, you will find that option in the
“Regional and Language Optionsâ€, under the “Administrative†tab).

You should normally be able to install your Russian Language Pack (the
Cyrillic characters should now be readable and you should be able to follow
the instructions). Afterwards, you can switch back to English.

loading a language package would be so difficult and require both your
expertise and a fairly advanced level of reading in Russian.

Dear Alex,

Thanks for getting back to us to confirm this solution worked.
Concerning the fact that you need to know the language when you install it,
I think it is normal. The Russian language pack will be downloaded and used
by people who, by definition, are interested in a Russian UI and in Russian
proofing tools, so, by definition, they must have some knowledge of the
language. Furthermore, they will be installed by anybody who is interested in
them, including many users who have a non-English version of Office and who
do not necessarily speak English at all.

That would be the same for any language pack, in fact. A German-speaking
user of Office might be interested in installing a Dutch language pack and
they would not expect the installation interface to be in English: it will be
in Dutch, which will work for anyone who is interested in such Dutch tools.
