Dear List

Does anyone know if the SP2 update for Office 2008 fixes the compatibility issues between Entourage and Safari 4 which meant that Entourage would randomly crash

Thanks

Hi Simon,

as far as I know, any incompatibilities between Entourage 2008 and Safari 4
disappeared when Safari 4 went out of beta.

Hi Michel

I have the released version of Safari 4 plus any hot-fixes on my Mac book but Entourage still seemed to crash every so often with no set pattern

I have now applied SP2 and will soon find out if the issue is fixed as the crash would occur at least once a day

Thanks for the reply

Best Regards

I have been having the same issue for a while and there are multiple
discussions about this issue on the web. Here is what the Entrouage Error
Report offers and usually happens when you are moving down the list and/or
deleting emails:

Microsoft Error Reporting log version: 2.0

Error Signature:
Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS
Date/Time: 2009-07-21 10:14:57 -0400
Application Name: Microsoft Entourage
Application Bundle ID: com.microsoft.Entourage
Application Signature: OPIM
Application Version: 12.2.0.090605
Crashed Module Name: JavaScriptCore
Crashed Module Version: unknown
Crashed Module Offset: 0x000045bc
Blame Module Name: JavaScriptCore
Blame Module Version: unknown
Blame Module Offset: 0x000045bc
Application LCID: 1033
Extra app info: Reg=en Loc=0x0409

A solution that was offered by downloading and executing MAC Update Combo
10.5.7; which did not work for me. Also, just loaded the recent upgrade from
Microsoft that supposedly improved the stability. The treads show that the
problem could be Safari 4.0+ in conjunction with Entourage 2008. However,
there is not an easy way to remove Safari and when I did, other issues
started on my Firefox browser when trying to use WebEx.

I was hoping that by sending the log to Microsoft every time Entourage
crashed may result in a response. So far, a month into it and 3-4 crashes a
day, and no response!

I've seen a couple of reports where SP2 fixed issues with Safari. However,
the release version of Safari should have fixed it for everyone. Not sure
what is going wrong for the few users that are still having issues.

Testing in a new User will quickly tell you if the problem is system wide or
if it¹s your User¹s folder that contains the problem.

Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Accounts. Switch to the
New User by logging out/in or use Fast User Switching. Test for the problem
in the new User.

Diane,

I did the new user and unfortunately it still crashed. :(

I am now going to try what someone suggested on a separate discussion to uninstall Mac Office and reinstall...

This is really sad. I have been keeping a log of the crash reports to see if I can understand it in any way, but I cannot decipher it... It is almost as bad as Core Dump of IBM Mainframes way back when... :(

Most mere mortals can't decipher those logs, but if you post the first part
(about 20 or so lines) of the log we might get some clues. The forum doesn't
allow long posts, but if you want to send the entire log off list to me,
I'll see if I can see anything that will give us a clue.

I have tried everything from various posts I have been following from
reinstalling Office 2008 and then SP1, SP2, and the latest update.
Also unchecked downloading pictures but nothing has worked! I just
keep crashing with similar logs that others are receiving. The thing
that is so frustrating about this is that Microsoft does not list
anything about the problem and to get support you have to pay. I
refuse to pay for a problem that they created! This makes me just
want to dump Microsoft and go with all Apple software. Hopefully
someone will come up with a solution but I can tell everyone that
nothing is stopping this crashing!

It's a combo Apple/MSFT issue. The strange thing is it only affects a small
group of folks. I've seen some users said just updating Office fixed their
issues and other said upgrading to Snow Leopard fixed it. Similarly doing
the same fixes did not help others.

It's probably some file that is locked or has incorrect permissions that
isn't allowing for the update to fix it. I hate to tell you to do an "Erase
& Install", but if you had a partition that you could install the OS and
Office to test, I would give it a try.

Sorry you are one of the unlucky ones.
