Same resource - different project/rates

P

Hey I ahve a problem..maybe someone can point me to a better solution
using ps07/PWA

I have resources which are being used across different projects. Now each
resource rate's change based on the project budgets. However, each time I
MSP07, each time I upload a project and change the std_rate for the resource,
its tells me I am upsetting the Enterprise Pool. But, if I dont change the
Std_rate in each project for the same resource, then the Whole folio is
showing up wrong values.. and this is throwing out the EVM

Early envoirments it was easily progress was tracked against each project on
MSP03 and then aggreated seperately to gather folio values.

any pointers on how to resolve this in an EPM scenerio ?

Hi /pd,

generally standard rates are associated to resources. Project server does
not allow you to have a different rate per project for a specific resource. (
which is limiting I admit).

The only way that you can apply a different rate for a project ( even only a
task) is the usage of cost rate tables. Each resource can have 5 different
cost rate tables, meaning that a resource can have essentially 5 different
standard rates.

Firstly you will need to open a resource and amend their cost rate tables (
double click on the resource and the resource inforamtion dialog window will
appear).

Then, when you open a project and go into the resource usage view, add the
cost rate table column to the view and now you can decide which cost rate
table should aply to a specific task ( and of course you can use the same
cost rate table for the whole project).

This will at least allow you to maintain 5 different rates.
I hope this helps

Thanks for the response. I'll try this and see what happens..this actually
now makes a whole new process rigor within the folio matrix. that is setting
of std_Rate and then ALSO the Cost_RATE_TABLE

Seems that cubes now seem to be defunct on Cost's column.. !Will need to do
more analyisis

Chances are you can't meet your requirement using Project and Project
Server. If you're in a business, like a media agency, that establishes rates
for each client and sometimes multiple rates for each client, then you need
to do your costing outside of Project Server or you need to do quite a bit
of custom coding.
