Save a jpg as a pdf

You need to find a utility that creates PDF's. The owner of the format is
Adobe, so their Acrobat program is the safest. You could try searching in
Google for "create PDF"

I was hoping to find a Microsoft solution. Since Microsoft Office Picture
Manager will export a JPG to all of these formats: BMP, GIF, JPG, & PNG, how
hard would it be to add the capability to create a PDF? Anyone know of a
Microsoft program or utility that can create a PDF from a JPG?

I expect that Adobe will have a way to do it - for a fee. Their ubiquitous
'Reader' program won't open anything except a PDF.

No, there is no Microsoft way to create a .pdf, excluding the Office 2007
beta.

There are alternatives to the Adobe Acrobat program - some free, some low
cost. And yes, the Reader will only read .pdfs. Just like the Excel Viewer
will only view an Excel file.

I've not investigated Open Office but is it available for
Windows? Under Linux, more specifically the free Ubuntu, it will
write PDF files.

The pdf format or the method of creating it is copyrighted by Adobe, whilst
they havent taken action against, or maybe allowed some Companies to create
utilities that will write a pdf file I believe they are making noises about
the ability to do so in Office2007, or is it Vista?

Hi Atom,

Why don't you check out the free PDF creators below -- I think these
are generally considered to be the best of the free PDF creation
utilities.

PrimoPDF 3.0

It's Office 2007 and at this time the released version of Office will not be
able to save as .pdf.

"There is no question mark over whether developers other than Adobe can
produce PDF software. Page 7 of the PDF Reference 1.6 clearly states
this. The issue in this instance is simply Microsoft's potentially
anti-competitive bundling in a market in which it has an overwhelmingly
dominant market position."

The PDF format is an open standard -- it was created and is maintained
by Adobe Systems, but that doesn't preclude other companies from
creating their own PDF related software.

Do you know if they're going to make it available to work with older
versions of Office? I've been curious about this for some time.

I have Acrobat but I know that many Office users would have appreciated
that. I'll just keep recommending PrimoPDF.

I use PDFCreator. Its one issue is that when creating a PDF from a gif
or jpg file, the resulting pdf is usually much larger than the
original file. For example a 200KB jpg file produced a 1.2MB pdf file.
It may be that I need to tweak the settings for PDFCreator.
