save a Resource Pool

Hi!
I'd like to know if there is any possible way to save a Resource Pool in a
file that we can keep in our PC and not in the Project Server.
When I open a Resource Pool through the project professional (connected to
server)I cannot keep it in my PC. The option "Save As " is not available.

Could help me understanding how can I save it?
Many thanks in advance.
Best Regards

In the future, please let us know what version of Project Server you are
using. 2002, 2003, or 2007?

To answer your question, I am assuming your purpose for wanting to save a
local resource pool file is so that you can copy and paste resources into
new projects that you create while not connected to Project Server. Right?
If this is the case, do the following:

1. Launch Project Professional and connect to Project Server.
2. With the new blank project open, click Tools - Build Team from
Enterprise.
3. Copy all of the resources into the project team and then close the
dialog.
4. Click View - Resource Sheet.
5. Click File - Save As and then click the Save as File button.

If you are wanting to create projects while not connected to Project Server,
you can copy and paste resources from the local resource pool file into your
project. However, when you are ready to bring the project into the Project
Server system, be sure to use Tools - Enterprise Options - Import Project to
Enterprise (DO NOT open it and click File - Save As).

Hope this helps.

Hi Dale

Can you please explain why it's important to do the import versus a 'file
save' route? I'm sure that's the preferred process; however, I'm trying to
document that here and would really appreciate some more info as to why it's
better to import (I found out recently that some of our users have been using
the 'file save'). Thanks!

Because it forces the project to completely conform to your organization's
standards for categorizing projects, tasks, and resources. Most import in
the steps detailed in the Import Projects Wizard is the screen when the user
must match each resource in the project with a resource in the Enterprise
Resource Pool. Hope this helps.

Hi Dale, thanks for your answer.

I use EPM 2007.
The reason for save resource pool is because i need restart my project and i
want the old resource pool for new instalation. the old resource pool have
lots of names and columns and is dificult make RPool from the begin.

I try your idea, "Build Team from Enterprise.". I save a resource pool in a
file and I open It and save columns and past to my new resource pool, but
it's difficult, because only result past a column alone.

How you make that?

I misunderstood your reason for saving the resources. To bring the
resources into your new Project Server 2007 instance, you should use the
Import Resources wizard (Tools - Enterprise Options - Import Resources to
Enterprise). Hope this helps.

Hi Dale,

Once again many thanks for your support.

unfortunately the last advice you gave doesn't work because it is only used
to import local resources. Am I right?

Sorry if I didn't get it yet, but I'm a "freshman" in EPM... The only thing
I wanted is to import only the the resource pool into another instance.
The solution you gave on the first email doesn't work 100% because I am not
able
to copy all at once.

Thanks again for everything!

Cheers

Now I don't get what you are trying to do. Are you saying you want to save
your Enterprise Resource Pool from one Project Server instance and then
import it into another Project Server instance? If that is the case, when
you save the blank project containing resources (as I detailed for you in my
first reply) as an .mpp file, then the resources in that .mpp project ARE
local resources. You need to import them into the second Project Server
instance using the Import Resources Wizard, as I stated in my last reply.

If you are trying to do something else, then you need to give us a much
clearer explanation of what you are trying to do. Let us know.
