save all messages

It looks like I will have to do a recovery on my computer. How do i save
messages in Outlook? Are the messages somewhere on my hard drive so I can
save them?

If you use POP email then yes.
Close Outlook and search for, and make a copy of, your pst file. The default
name is Outlook.pst and the default location is
C:\Users\{Your User Name here}\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook (AFAIR - I
don't have my pst file in the default location...)
