save as mht

Hi, as people have previously menioned, Outlook 2007 does not support saving
emails to an external folder as htmls, without creating an additional file
folder as well. So i've been advised to save emails to external folders as
mht files. However, when i go to Save As, the default is always html. Is
there some way to change this? When we save emails we have to change the
filename, and the extra button for changing the type from html to mht is just
annoying.

Any ideas?

Not possible. But if you know VBA, you can create macro that saves the
current item as a mht and you can use variables from the email (such as from
and date/time and subject) to directly construct a filename as well.

Thanks Roady, but completely over my head!! Looks like i will just have to
put up with it...grrr Microsoft changing things that seemed to work fine.

You're welcome! :)
Another way to go would be to drag the messages out of Outlook and drop them
into a folder in Explorer. This will save the message in a single msg-file.
Personally I prefer this format as it will retain all Outlook properties,
any attachments and will allow you to put them back into Outlook as well.

Yep I did think of that, but our IT person doesn't like us saving emails as
msgs cos of the bigger size.

Oh well, thanks again for your help!
