Save As

I am running Microsoft Excel 2003, however I've had the same problem since
running Excel 2000. Whenever I go to save an excel spreadsheet for the
first time, more than 3 directories down, I get the error: "The file cannot
be accessed try the following:" followed by a list of options to try, none
of which work.

Is there a limitation on the length of the directory name recognized in
Excel. I don't have this problem with any of my other Microsoft Office
applications, solely Excel.

Please HELP.

P.S. I can move the file to the directory after saving it two or three
directory levels up. I can also manipulate and save the document once it
was moved. Just can't create a new file.

AGS

How long is that path?

I just tried saving to a really long path in win98/xl2002 and got a message
back:

Make sure the file/path name doesn't contain more than 218 characters.

I believe the limit is 256 characters in the path and name combined.

Not an Excel issue, but a Windows FAT32 or NTFS limit.

See this posting by Harlan Grove for details and specs.
