Save changes to global template prompt when closing Word

I have a brand new installation of Office XP on a Windows 2000 Terminal
server. Everytime I close Word I get the error : "Word cannot save changes
to the global template because it was opened with read only access. Do you
want to save the changes in a template with a different name".

This definately seems to be a right issue. If I make myself member of the
domain admins group I don't get this error. Does anyone know what rights
need to be set to stop this error from appearing?

Thanks,

scott

Scott,

We are using Win2K with office 2k and have the same
problem. The temporary fix we have used is to make the
user a "Power User"

To everyone else,

While this works, it is not a desireable solution here.
Does anyone know which keys in the registry I need to edit
to allow a normal user the rights to save a
changed "Normal Template"?

Thanks,

Bob

It sounds as though you may not have Normal.dot or the user templates folder
location set up individually for each user. Are you perhaps trying to share
Normal.dot between users? This is never a satisfactory approach - each user
should have their own user templates folder (see Tools > Options > File
Locations) on the local machine with full permissions. The default location
is somewhere under the user profile.

Bob,

Do you have a normal.dot file in the shared template location? My problem
was being caused because some users had more than read only rights to the
shared template directory, because of this when they open Word a normal.dot
file is automatically created there. As long as I made sure users had no
more than read only rights to the shared template directly no normal.dot
files were created there and no more errors closing Word!!
