I need to format my PC and reinstall everything including Office 03. I was
wondering if there was a way to save everything in outlook (especialy my
address book) and reinstall that info into the newly installed Outlook.
Thanks guys.

Yes... If you are running XP (can be run on other OS's - not sure how though).

There is a program designed to transfer all program settings (and maybe
programs too - but I would reinstall all programs first anyway - don't rely
on this method to install programs).
Click Start->Programs->Accessories->System Tools
and select 'File and Settings Transfer Wizard'
This program can save all program settings and email content and transfer it
to your new install.
I have used it many times - the easiest way I found is to specify saving to
a file, copy the resulting directory to a CD and use that to restore it again.

Procedure:
Pick 'Old Computer' and click Next
Select 'Other' and click Browse to select a hard drive to save your settings
to.
(You may be able to select a CD or DVD - but I prefer to save to a HD first
just in case the burn fails as it can take a long time to run this progam)
Next screen shows all settings that will be transferred (default), this can
be tricky - if you want everything - just select 'Both Files and Settings'
Click Next and it may show any programs that need to be reinstalled.
Next again and it will start saving settings.

Catch - this will take a lot of space - if you are formatting because you
ran out of space and/or are installing a new hard drive- (USE THIS PROCEDURE
ONLY IF YOU DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH ROOM ON YOUR CURRENT HARD DRIVE,
AND do not have a CD/DVD that can be directly written to,
AND ARE MOVING TO A NEW ONE - and - YOUR EXISTING OS IS INSTALLED ON C: (Do
not use this procedure if Windows is installed on a D: partition unless you
are real good at changing drive letters in the OS))
1) Visit Windows Update and make sure you have the 'File and Settings
Transfer Wizard' Update installed (there was an update to this program -
better check to prevent problems restoring later)
2) Temporarily disconnect your existing hard drive and install the new hard
drive
3) Format and install Windows and all programs onto this drive.
4) After the new drive is installed and your OS is working fine, again visit
Windows Update and install all updates (especially File and Settings Wizard
if present)
5) Connect your old drive again (you may need to change it to 'master'
instead of 'single' depending on drive manufacturer - check the label on the
drive)
6) Temporarily change your new drive (just installed) to 'slave'
7) Boot your old OS -
8) Run File and Settings Transfer Wizard - and select your new hard drive as
the partition to save to
9) After done - power down and swap drives master and slave to boot off your
new drive
10) boot your new OS and run File and Settings Transfer Wizard
11) Pick 'New Computer'
12) Select the 'source folder' as the folder created in step 8 - typically
something like C:\USMT2.UNC
13) continue until restored...
Good luck - hope this helps...
Have a Great Day,
Swifty

Thanks for the promt and detailed response Swifty, this looks like it will
help out for a lot of my programs, and I was about to use this utility as you
suggested but when it gave me a long list of settings and files that it would
transfer, I didn't see any for Outlook Professional 2003. The closest was
Outlook Express (which i dont really use). By the way I am running WinXP Pro
and the reason I am formating and reinstalling is because I receantly
upgraded my motherboard and CPU and my OS was on a RAID 0 config and now I
get a lot a blue screens and I think it is because of the RAID set. Thanks
agian.

Swifty's answer is far too complicated. With Outlook closed, just copy your
PST to an external medium like a CD. After reformatting, reinstalling, and
reconfiguring everything, copy the saved PST to the hard drive (taking care
not to overwrite any existing PST of the same name), remove the read-only
attribute, and start Outlook. Click File>Open>Outlook Data File, browse to
the PST you just restored, select it, and click OK. You'll now have access
to all your data. To make this PST the delivery location again, click
Tools>E-mail Accounts>Next and select the ST in the drop-down at the bottom
left. Click Finish, then close and restart Outlook. All done.

We saved our e-mail files (inbox, addresses, etc.) to CD when we reformatted
our computer. I now need to look up old e-mails and I can't open the file
off the CD.
It's a "pst" file and windows can't open it.

Any suggestions?

copy it to the hard drive and remove the read only flag - it should work
then. you can place it in any folder on the hard drive BTW, and use File,
Open, Outlook data file to access it.
