Save failed due to out of memory or disk space

I am using Word in Office 2007 and have a Word document that was sent
to me via e-mail. When I try to edit and save it, I get a message
that "Save failed due to out of memory or disk space". The message is
bogus, I have plenty of memory and disk space, the file is only 1.5MB
(tiny by Word standards).

I have searched this group and there is no advice on how to fix this,
only vague guesses about clearing temp files or disconnecting/
reconnecting mapped drives. None of those things are an issue here.

I've run Word diagnostics, no problems there either. There is no
repair option in Office 2007.

Anyone have new ideas?

The error message is a catchall when Windows doesn't know what is wrong. But
from your description, it is corrupt.

Firstly, are you saving it to your local HDD BEFORE trying to open it in
Word?
If it fails then, try the Open and Repair option.
If that fails, then the doc has been corrupted in transmission.

Yes, that seems to be the common concensus.
But from your description, it is corrupt.

Interesting that you can create corrupt documents using Word.

Word?

I've tried local and server, no difference.

If it fails then, try the Open and Repair option.

The Open and Repair option doesn't exist in Word 2007, it has been
replaced by "Run Microsoft Office Diagnostics", which checks the
install of Office but doesn't do anything in regard to the document
that I can tell.
If that fails, then the doc has been corrupted in transmission.

It has been re-transmitted a number of times, both with and without
being zipped. I doubt very much that transmission has anything to do
with it, it is more likely som graphics that have been inserted in
tables that, once removed, allowed the document to be saved.

I have run across this issue before - it is a sure fire way to crash
Word 2003 when saving a document.

Anyhow, fixed my issue by creating a brand new 2003 document that is
the same as the one that was sent - 1.5 days effort to get back to
square one, but at least the document will not become corrupt again if
I'm careful.

Installing both Word 2003 and 2007 on the one machine has its own
challenges - it seems MS doesn't expect anyone to do that, the
settings for one trash settings for the other depending on which one
was opened last. I don't have a very high opinion of MS application
developers.

Open & Repair does still exist in Word 2007 in EXACTLY the same place as it
is in W2003. Your confusing Open & Repair (of documents) with Repairing
Office.

Word 2003 ands W2007 can reside quite happily side-by-side on one PC with a
registry hack.
