Save my Visio setup?

S

I've arranged my Visio toolbars just as I like them (which is nothing like
the way they were when I installed Visio).

Is there a way to save this setup?

At the moment, each time I install Visio I have to mess about customising
all the toolbars, which seems a real waste of time.

Thanks,

Which version of Visio?

For V2007(Std/Pro), confirm that under File>properties, Save Workspace is
checked.

Otherwise, I've not tried this myself, but you might want to investigate:
Tools > options > advanced: check save settings to registry. Don't know if
that will preserve your custom settings or not.

Ah, sorry, I should have said: Visio 2003.

Thank you, I'll have a play with that. Also, maybe I'll see if I can watch
my system for changed files when I make changes to the toolbars. Might be
the only way to pin it down.

Thanks again,

SteveT

Doh! I searched this forum for "custom toolbars" and found this topic. I
think it addresses your issues:

Thanks, WapperDude. In fact, this is a different issue. I have no problem
with my custom toolbars persisting between sessions. My real question is,
how can I permanently back up my toolbar customisations so I can quickly
restore them next time I reformat my disk and reinstall everything.

For example, in Paint Shop Pro there is a Save Workspace command, which lets
you export all the workspace settings to a file, which can be backed up and
reloaded at any time in the future. But I can't find anything similar in
Visio 2003.

My thought was to find out where the toolbar customisation information is
held, and back that up ready for my next reinstallation. I don't know if
it's held in a .ini file somewhere, or in the registry.

HOWEVER, that thread you pointed me to seems to offer a workaround, so I'll
look carefully into it.

And thanks again for continuing to be so helpful.

Regards,

SteveT

UiObject has SaveToFile method and CustomToolbarsFile method.
Thought I have not ever seen how they work.

I believe John Goldsmith's suggestion is great,
but people might wish more safe or automatic way in future.
