save only filtered results to csv/txt file

I

Igor

Excel 2000, Win98SE. I need to filter an xls file and then save only what
is shown to a csv/txt file. The master xls file has new data added in a
single import each day. Then I will have to filter the file 2 or 3 ways
and save the filtered results to seperate csv/txt files, so I need to
streamline the process.

Also is there a means, comparable to scenarios, that I can use to set up
different filtering combinations and then easily switch between them?

Suggestions welcome. Thanks. -- Igor

You should be able to copy and paste the data to a new workbook and save
that. Alternatively you could use advance filter instead of auto filter and
'copy to a new location'

I have not got 2000 loaded anymore, but I believe you could set up views in
this which would save filter settings, etc. Check it out in help

I tried cut & paste after filtering, and I get all of the rows, even the
ones that are not visible. And "filter to" has too many steps to be
practical. Thanks.

When I did this, xl2002 only copied|pasted the visible cells. (And I think xl2k
is the same--you may want to try it once more.)

But if it doesn't work for you, add one more step.
autofilter
select the range
F5 (or edit|goto)|Special
visible cells only
then paste to that new worksheet.

Then save as .csv/.txt

My apologies to Nick. As you suggested, I tried again to copy & paste on
filtered data and it did just copy over what was visible. Where is the
"user filter"? Thanks to both of you. (And, the special|visible worked,
too.)
