How can one change the security settings when saving as a PDF so that comments
are enabled?

Thanks

I believe you would need to purchase Acrobat (Standard or Professional)
to be able to do that.

Tim - you may be correct *BUT* given that Microsoft provides the Save-As-PDF
tool, and given that the document security is defined at document creation, it
would seem reasonable for the Save-As-PDF to be able to define this.

Thanks

The Save As PDF isn't embedded Adobe Acrobat. And you shouldn't expect
the feature set to include all of Adobe's features. Otherwise you will
expect to pay for considerable additional licensing sum to Adobe when
you buy Office.

Bob - I understand this isn't the full Adobe product but I was hoping for a way
to change some of the basic security options such as a read password and
enabling comments.

I don't have a copy to play with/verify, so whatever you have available
is what Microsoft was able to include without having Adobe break out the
lawyers.

I agree with Bob...what Microsoft provides (for free) is simply a format
conversion tool...nothing more and nothing less. Adding comments to a
PDF is more than just converting a format. There are other free
conversion utilities out there that do the same thing and they don't
provide the added functionality you desire. I'm afraid you will just
have to purchase Acrobat if you want features that go beyond simple
format conversion.

My hope was that MS could provide the ability when they create a PDF to (a)
password protect it and (b) enable commenting which is a document security
setting. Both of these are easy to do as I've seen it done in several free text
to pdf conversion tools.

Thanks
