Problem: Saved Excel files open with zero column width
I’m running Excel 98 for the Macintosh. I have a 400MHZ iMac running
with OS 9.0.4. This problem is sporadic and began about two months ago.
I’ve tried quitting and reopening Excel, restarting, powering-down,
powering-up. I’ve tried running Norton Anti-Virus, Norton Disk Doctor,
Norton Speed Disk, reloading MS Office, and "Rebuilding The Desktop"
to no avail.
When I run Norton Disk Doctor it occasionally comes up with a "Bad
Modification Date" of a backup copy of an Excel file, but never the
ones I’m trying to open. I followed the directions of a Microsoft web
site. It only said how to recover from the problem, not what was
causing it. The link is:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;288622
On a good day, all the files will open normally. On a bad day, when the
problem occurs, I try to recover by selecting Format/Columns/AutoFit
Selection. That will fix the filled columns but it often reformats the
date to the number of days since January 1, 1904.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
