saves unusuable files when word file is opened

Micah

in the last few days Word every time i open a word file
and close it it will save a file that takes the file name
and gets rid of the first few letters replacing them with
~$. When i try to open these files it says that it needs
a converter to open them. I have not bothered to install
the converter to see what is in these files. But i cannot
figure out why it is creating these files. Thanks.

These are "owner files." See "WD: How Word for Windows Uses Temporary Files"
at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=211632. If they're not being deleted
when you close the file, then perhaps you do not have the required
permissions on the document folder.
