Saving a Dynamic Master Project

When saving a Dynamic Master I receive the following message: "The current
project has inserted projects that are present as inserted projects in other
master projects as well. This may prevent the current project from being
published." The window then lists each subproject and the same dynamic
master for which it is currently linked.

Since each subproject is only linked to a single master, how can I prevent
from seeing this and what impact will this have going forward?

GB,
It sounds like you may have been saving the master periodically using
Save As with a new name. This effectively creates a series of masters
that replicate the linking structure and will eventually lead to
corruption - hence the message about multiple masters.

Do not save a master file under multiple names. If you want to capture a
snapshot at a particular interval, convert the dynamic master to a
static master by selecting the insertion point summary line of each
subproject in the master and using the advanced tab to break the link.
When all subprojects are unlinked, you will have a static master that
you can save. Be advised however that using the process will not
preserve external links between tasks in the subprojects. To do that
requires a macro.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the response John. Do you, by chance, happen to know of a good
source for learning more about creating master projects in Server '07?

GB,
I don't do Project Server but we do have a separate newsgroup for it.
Try posting to: microsoft.public.project.server.
