Saving a power point show as a slide presentation

I am trying to save a power point show as a slide presentation. For whatever
reason when I go to "file, save as, and save type as (power point show) it is
converting it to a text only document. I have version 2000. Anyone have any
idea's or work arounds to this one? I can view it as a slide show, but when
I'm viewing it I don't have any save options. Thank you in advance.

I don't know why it would do something like this. You can just save it as a
..ppt file and then change the extension to .pps I would check and make sure
that you have all the necessary updates for your version. When your viewing
your presentation as a slide show you cannot save is by design. You can only
save your presentation when your in the edit mode.

Hi Michael, thank you for your reply. As far as I know I have all available updates. I'm a student and I had problems with a newsletter assignment I had last week too. It was in two column form and when I would go to save it the computer would convert it to a one page doc. I finally figured out that I had to save it in two steps, saving the left column first and then the right column. I went back in just now and tried to save the power point doc as a slide presentation using the ..ppt after the title and it just saved a new copy of the template I used to create the document, instead of saving it as a slide show. I can't turn in the entire template, just the slide presentation. Thank you again. I have no idea on this one. I know my computer is quite old, but wouldn't think that would have anything to do with the ability to save, but maybe??

If your two column form is in Microsoft Word, and want to save it into a
PowerPoint slide It has to be in outline form, where you can import it into
PowerPoint. If you select your form to the clipboard you can the paste it
into PowerPoint as an image. but you will not be able to edit it.
