Saving a presentation as HTML

H

Hanlie

Hi,

I use PowerPoint 2000 on Windows 2000.

When I save a presentation as HTML and I choose to exclude slide
navigation controls, PowerPoint ignores me and puts the slide
navigation controls and the notes on the web page anyway.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled PowerPoint, but it made no
difference.

Has anyone else come across this and was able to fix it?

Thanks
Hanlie, South Africa

I just tried excluding the slide navigation controls in my copy of
PowerPoint 2000 and PowerPoint did not place any controls.

Try these:

1. If you don't have the latest Service Pack for Office 2000, download and
install it.

2. Try running Help | Detect and Repair in PowerPoint.

3. Take a look at PPT2HTML - RnR PPT2HTML PowerPoint to HTML Converter -

Thanks for all the suggestions.
First, try deleting the main web page file you've saved as HTML to and all of
the support files, then re-save as HTML.

Tried this, to no avail.

I downloaded the demo version and it works very well. Unfortunately
the people here have very tight pockets and with our exchange rate,
they won't fork out for the registered version.

If that doesn't help, post the *exact* steps you've followed to create the HTML
files; literally step by step so one of us can follow it through exactly as
you've done.

0. Open the presentation in PP.
1. File - Save as Web Page...
2. Publish button
3. Web Options button
4. Make sure that Add slide navigation controls is deselected
5. Other two check boxes on General tabbed page are selected.
6. Files tabbed page - top three check boxes are selected.
7. Pictures tabbed page - Allow PNG selected and screen size 800x600.
8. Encoding tabbed page - Western European (Windows).
9. OK button.
10. Browser support - All.
11. File name - accept default.
12. Publish button.
13. Aaaargh!

Thanks in advance for your help.

When you click on Web Options, are you unchecking the box that says "Display
speaker notes"?

Hmm. Not here. When I follow Hanley's steps and click on Publish, I get a
dialog box that says "Publish what?" and under that is a box for "Display
speaker notes" plus the Web Options button. If I leave the speaker notes
checked, click on Web Options and uncheck Add slide navigation controls and
click OK, the Speaker Notes box is still checked but grayed out. In that sense
it's disabled, but it's still checked. Didn't know what impact that might have.

I didn't see that before, but I unchecked it before I unchecked the
Display slide navigation controls check box and I still have the same
problem.

I think the problem is with the setup on my machine rather than in the
files. Unfortunately I don't know how to fix it!

Thanks for all the efforts to help me.
