Saving an excel file in word

I was using an excel file to merg to a word document and by mistake I saved
the excel file in word. Now it will not come up in excel. Is there a way to
retrieve this file back in excel?

Try to save file in XML format. Then open XML file in excel -> you can save
as .xls file.

It should work..
