Saving documents

When atttempting to save in Word ("Save As"), Word would freeze and I had to
Shut it using the Task Manager. The same is now also showing up in Excel.

It is no different even after trying to reinstall office, running a Norton
Anti-virus and office disk scan.

Before this happened there was nothing unusual observation.

everyone with this problem.

Q: Is it risky for a novice to attempt to change the registry as suggested
by Microsoft ?
Or should one be prepared to to reinstall Windows + Office altogether
(i.e. reformat) ?
Will this problem occur when one applies this patch after the
reinstallation ?

Q1. If the instructions are read and followed I wouldn't see a problem
other than making sure of my typing. Or Copy+Paste the key from the
Article to the registry, to avoid mistyping.
Q2. If it goes south due to errors made, then you may have that result.
Q3. Yes, if you also have reinstalled the Publish to Web feature of HP.

Yes I agree with you.

This web to publish feature is something that comes from the installation of
HP printer driver ?
I will check while installing, but is it feasible to have the option of not
installing this feature while installing the printer ?

For the short term you could prevent it from starting, (remove it from
Start folder) or uninstall it in Add/Remove Programs.
